This refers to the angles and proportion that the diamond is cut into.  To emphasize this first statement, today in 2005, both GIA and EGL are redefining their cut grade scales to be broader.   What this means is they the industry is realizing that two diamonds, even though may be cut very differently, can both be beautiful.
